awaken

Awaken. Come alive once again. As the earth grows fresh from its final frost, the air becomes rich with the new season. Driving with the top down. Let the wind take your worries. Today you start anew.

summer adventures

The other day, after a perfect evening of short films and dinner with friends, we stumbled upon some sidewalk salsa.  A local salsa club was holding a dance party in the middle of the street just as the night set in.  And, of course, the only thing to do in that situation is... well, dance!  It is time to spend the warm days (and nights) savouring the outdoors and seeking new adventures.  Let the summer linger for a little longer by finding some spontaneity in each day. Whether it's enjoying a bike ride (or a Vespa ride), late lunches on a garden patio, picnics by the water or simply a book with a blanket on the grass.  Let these summer days be full of cherished moments.  And always make time to dance in the streets.

photography project

I recently had the honour of shooting Comrags Spring 2011 collection for a very lovely online magazine Heron of Style.  A day sprinkled with old Hollywood glamour in the historic Gladstone Hotel.  We had an amazing time!  I wanted to give you a sneak peek of some of the photos but there will be more coming very soon.

Ashes and Snow

Although the exhibition began many years ago, I had to share these phenomenal photos from the show Snow and Ashes.  These incredible moments are captured by Gregory Colbert, a Toronto born artist, who has combined film, writings and photography to tell the story of animals co-existing in harmony.

The most amazing part is that none of the photos are superimposed or digitally collaged.  It is a mixed-media experience and everything the audience sees is what the artist himself saw through the lens.  The website alone is an adventure through the wild!

How magical is this photo?!  Dancing through the ocean with a whale!  It evokes such power and freedom.  Gregory is quoted as saying that "When I started Ashes and Snow in 1992, I set out to explore the relationship between man and animals from the inside out. In discovering the shared language and poetic sensibilities of all animals, I am working towards restoring the common ground that once existed when people lived in harmony with animals.”

The title of the exhibit comes from a beautifully bound book that is a component of the show.  It comprises of fictional letters written from a man to a woman about his journey through the wild.  365 letters to be exact and in the 365th letter the source of the title "Ashes and Snow" is revealed.

Who holds the wisdom in this photo?

To add to the experience Colbert created the Nomadic Museum to travel the globe and house this exhibit.  It evolves as it travels and is a collaboration with innovative architects who specialize in sustainable structures.   This temporary museum will continue to change as the exhibit grows and travels the world indefinitely.  To date it is the most attended exhibit by a living artist in history.

Vintage Paris

On hazy days like today I wish I was roaming the streets of Paris. Perhaps in an over sized hat and perfectly fitted pencil skirt like these vintage ladies.
These exquisite photos are by Walde Huth. A female fashion photographer from the 50's. Take a visit over to My Vintage Vogue for the most amazing collection of classic fashion photography.

Arabian Horses

When I stumbled across these images of arabian horses I sat in complete awe for some time. The magic that these animals hold is breathtaking. It's as if they are dancing with so much power and a determined energy. I love how the photographer (Wojtek Kwiatkowski) applied a delicate, almost pencil sketch element to the photos. The Brilliant Tim Walker

I am so excited for my very first post on 'love, jolie' and in honour of that I wanted to pay tribute to an incredibly talented artist, Tim Walker!

Each photo is staged like a timeless film and invents a story in the viewer's mind in an instant. He was once Richard Avedon's assistant and it shows - he learned from the best!

I am so in love with the surreal and unexpected aspects of his photos. Aren't the over-sized pearls fantastic?

Stunning!

And of course it only makes sense that Him and Tim Burton have worked together. This spread was based on Roald Dahl's short story collection "Tales of the Unexpected." As a child nothing thrilled me more than diving into a Roald Dahl book. I think I read The Witches eight times. I would love to see this editorial turned into a movie! How wonderful would that be?
