Potions, Lotions, Spirits and Spells

Skeletons dressed to impress, vintage witch's potion bottles, pumpkin baskets filled with flowers, dainty carvings and flickering light.  Surely a night to remember!

Treats...

The Tim's have joined forces once again and in perfect time!  The ultimate Halloween treat for our hungry eyes is a shoot filled with high fashion, Tim Burton and photographed by the glorious Tim Walker!
Loving every striking, bold colour and each mouth-watering, made-to-order couture piece ~ thank you to Paris Hotel Boutique for the lovely find!

Voodoo Girl
by Tim Burton

Her skin is white cloth,
and she's all sewn apart
and she has many colored pins

sticking out of her heart.

She has many different zombies
who are deeply in her trance.
She even has a zombie

who was originally from France.

But she knows she has a curse on her,
a curse she cannot win.
For if someone gets
too close to her,

the pins stick farther in.

Running from November through to April, MOMA in NYC will be holding a gallery and film exhibition on Burton's extraordinary career.  Filled with his sketches, paintings, poems, storyboards, puppets, maquettes and costumes as well as screenings of his most memorable films...it is not to be missed!

Dark Evenings & Dreary Delights

If you are feeling in the mood to delve deeply into a dark movie leading up to All Hallows' Eve I want to recommend some thrilling Tim Burton / Johnny Depp films.  There are, of course, the always wonderful classics such as Sweeney Todd, Sleepy Hollow and Edward Scissorhands.  Which are always on the Halloween must watch list!  But one that may surprise you.....if you haven't already seen it (or even if you have), is the whimsical film Ed Wood.  It's dark, dreamy and quite perfect for this time of year.  Fall into the world of B-Movie director Ed Wood and his enchanting allure as he creates terrible horror films starring his strange group of friends.  It is fantastically peculiar!

All Hallows' Eve...

Once upon a midnight dreary, while I pondered, weak and weary,
Over many a quaint and curious volume of forgotten lore -

While I nodded, nearly napping, suddenly there came a tapping,
As of some one gently rapping, rapping at my chamber door.

"'Tis some visitor," I muttered, "tapping at my chamber door -
Only this and nothing more."

~ Edgar Allan Poe (excerpt from The Raven)

As the witching hour approaches I wanted to lure you with some enticing photos of haunting delights for your perusing.   If anyone knows how to do Halloween it is most definitely Miss Martha Stewart! The mystique and dark shadows, glowing lanterns and masquerade pumpkins all transform the everyday into the magical unknown.  Nobody does it like Martha!  Great decor tips from filling the windows with paper silhouettes to building your very own coffin table.

Grey & Gold at Valentino

The RTW Valentino collection at last weeks Paris show was nothing short of magnificent.  Every piece was another treat for the eye.  The light colour palette with black lace and leather touches, the rosettes, chiffon, swirls of tulle and silk sashes .... ahhhhh.  It was impossible to pick only a few photos for this post!  The make-up and hair was elegant as well as a little edgy.  The shoes were extraordinary! Designed by the incredible Phillip Treacy these striking pieces were truly the show-stopper.  With delicate, lace wings cascading up the leg it was like black icing on an already delicious cake!

carry me caravan, take me away

Deep in the heart of Provence along the foothills of the Chaîne des Alpilles mountain range there are the most beautiful gypsy caravans being restored by Jeanne Bayol and Jean-Marie Maréchal.  Honouring the essence of these treasured time pieces, Jeanne & Jean stay true to the history that the caravans hold.

They are and have always been sacred spaces for the gypsies.  They evoke all the mystery and enchantment of times passed but also of moments to come.  The idea of traveling towards the unknown is what inspires and sparks my imagination.  It is this unknown and the gypsies distinctive spirit that Jeanne & Jean want to capture in their restorations, which is what they call "a subtle mix of temporary and eternal."

It has now become quite posh to accessorize french gardens with these lovely caravans.  Whether it's used for a tea room, a guest house, a playhouse or just a nice escape to sit and read a book quietly they are most certainly delightful!
